Q: What are the different types of hair?
A: There are three main types of hair, Raw, Virgin, and Remy.
Raw Hair:
- This refers to human hair that has not undergone any form of processing or treatments, whether it be chemical or steam processing.Â
- Raw hair is collected directly from individual donors and all the hair strands, and cuticles are aligned in the same direction. This prevents tangling.
Virgin hair:
- Virgin hair refers to human hair that has not been processed or chemically treated in any way.Â
- The cuticles are intact and are aligned in the same direction which prevents tangling and shedding.Â
- Virgin hair is generally more consistent in terms of length and texture compared to raw hair but hasn’t necessarily been collected from a single donor. Because of this the price of virgin hair is considerably less than raw hair.
Remy hair:
- Remy hair refers to quality human hair that has hair cuticles intact and that are aligned in the same direction to ensure a natural look and feel.Â
- Remy hair may have undergone slight processing whether it be dying, perming the hair or slight chemical processing.
- The vast majority of remy hair that is available in South Africa has undergone some form of processing and because of this is usually much cheaper than Virgin hair.Â
- Remy hair should be able to take colour but usually can only dye to brown shades or #27 and not to blonde 613.

Q: What is the hair grading system?
A:Â The Grading system was implemented to indicate the difference in quality in the hair industry.Â
Essentially, what makes the hair different in quality is how the hair is collected and how it is processed. The more the hair has been processed or chemically treated the lower the quality of the hair would be. The less it’s been processed the higher the quality.Â
Unfortunately, the hair industry doesn’t have regulations that guide the grading system so this means the grading system would depend on the vendor.
______________________
Q: What makes one grade higher than the other?
A:
1. Price points - the higher the grade, the higher the price
2. Level of maintenance - the lower the quality the more maintenance it requires.
3. Durability – The high the quality the longer it will last (example with our low quality eg Sharon can last 1 year with adequate care
4. Texture – The higher the quality the more the texture is maintained all throughout the duration of the unit’s life span

Q:Â How Often Should I Wash My Human Hair Wig?
A: We recommend washing and conditioning every 6-8 wears. It’s good to apply a deep conditioner for curls & lusteriser/silicone every other wash since human hair needs added moisture.
Use products made for colour treated hair and follow manufacturer instructions when using a deep conditioner or treatment.
We recommend using the AKÂ Lusteriser and Serum on the ends. Your can spray our AK Lusteriser (or heat protectant of choice) all over your wig before blow drying and heat-styling.
Use your discretion when deciding when your wig needs to be washed, you can adjust your routine. Sometimes simply touching up the hair with a curling iron or flat iron in between washes works wonders.
